David McDougall BIO picDavid grew up in Montebello, QC, where the cross-country skiing wasn’t over until you’d lost at least one toenail.  Studies took him to Sedbergh, Bishops then onto Recreation Administration at Dalhousie U, which prepared him for his days with adventure cycling company Butterfield & Robinson. His guiding seasons were mixed with long visits to Austria & British Columbia for proper ski time.

Throughout the course of fifteen years with Butterfield & Robinson, David transitioned from bicycle mechanic to guide of multi-day & multi-week bike trips internationally. He led Tour de France trips, helped build trips in Oman, France & Newfoundland and cycled across Vietnam, Australia & New Zealand. David went onto act as the Regional Director for Morocco, where he spent every free moment of his 5-year tenure exploring the abundance of single track mountain biking throughout the Middle & High Atlas Mountains.

“My knowledge of the Atlas Mountains were put to good use during the location scouting & shooting of The Collective’s mountain bike project ROAM & for New World Disorder’s project & throughout the many mountain bike trips I have subsequently guided throughout these areas.” David and his French comrade Olivier Maillard equipped themselves with a fleet of bicycles in Morocco and began running cycling day trips out of Marrakech into the High Atlas Mountains. The skills he learnt in Morocco have prepared him well for opening his own business here in Montreal – on the banks of the historic Lachine Canal. “Throughout it all, the thrill has always come from riding and riding with great people.”

Stephanie Thompson Stephanie Thompson: A Pinarello amidst the hilltop villages of Provence during lavendar season… the essential ingredients that hooked Stephanie on road biking forever. Fast forward to Beaune, France ~ wherein lie the headquarters of cyclo-touring company Butterfield & Robinson. It was here that Stephanie began a five-year stint working as a bike guide for multi-day and multi-week Public & custom trips throughout France, Morocco, U.S.A, Iceland and Canada. In her final year with the company, Stephanie was charged with the task of building a North American departures program for the company.

Since opening Ma Bicyclette in 2008 with David McDougall, Stephanie has earned her accreditation as an Official guide for the City of Montreal, helped co-found a local chapter of Bicycles-for-Humanity that was responsible for shipping hundreds of bicycles to Namibia, and has been developing an arm of the business that specializes in customized cycling jerseys.

During the winter months, Ma Bicyclette’s off-season, Stephanie works as a bike guide for international luxury bike trip architects Gray & Co. and enjoys riding her fat bike through the Canadian winters.  Most recently she has guided bike tours throughout South Africa, Quebec, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Oregon, Tennessee, California, Australia & New Zealand.
